SUMMARY: Technical position in the special equipment group where the employee will oversee the installation and maintenance of proposed and existing fiber network. Employee will also develop knowledge and skill required to install, test, and maintain special equipment.

Reports to: SCADA Supervisor
Directs: None
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES
4yr degree in Information Systems, Electronics, or related field preferred
2 yr degree in Information Systems, Electronics or related field acceptable
FOA certification is a plus.
EXPERIENCE
5 or more years as Fiber Optic Technician or Similar Field
TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Recent Fiber installation experience.
- Fusion and mechanical splicing terminations
- FOA certification
- Knowledge of OTDR, light source and power meters.
- Familiar with splice drawings and OTDR test sheets and reading traces.
- Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings
- Cable prep/single and mass fusion splicing and termination abilities.
- Fiber Optic test and troubleshooting abilities
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- This role involves extensive travel within our service area.
- Splice, terminate, and repair fiber optic cable
- Designing and developing fiber optic system and network.
- Conduct site surveys to determine the best installation paths and techniques.
- Translate detailed schematics for fiber optic systems, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications.
- Supervise the installation of fiber systems and ensuring proper alignment, signal strength, and data transfer rates.
- Keep current and upgrade SCADA software and hardware as needed.
- See that trucks, tools, and working equipment assigned are properly used and kept in good working order.
- Install, maintain and repair fiber optics in existing and new substations and all transfer schemes and microgrids.
- Maintain communication infrastructure and software interfaces associated with Automated Metering Infrastructure
- Assist in coordination of all activities involving communications with the Information Technology Department
- Support Company objectives without exception.
- Participate in Job Training and Safety meetings as required.
- Participate in outages and emergencies as needed.
- Participate in annual meeting as required.
- Perform such other duties as required.
